Mike was introduced to funeral service while a senior in high school during a Death in Literature English class. The teacher invited the local funeral director to speak to Mike's class and the director also invited the class to take a tour of his funeral home. Mike was the only student to ask any questions and the director offered him a job washing cars, mowing grass and generally performing any other tasks that needed to be done.
After graduation from mortuary school, Mike went back to his hometown of Seminole and worked for the man that gave him his start. This is where Mike learned how to treat people well and to strive for excellent, personal service to families. When Mike married his wife Pam, they moved to Denver where Mike worked for a large corporate group of funeral homes. He moved up the ranks quickly and became the general manager of seven of their funeral homes in Denver. This is where he learned the business and how to operate it successfully.
Mike tries to always remind himself that someday he will be sitting on the other side of the desk and then tries to treat people as he will wish to be treated on that day. He also reminds himself that if he ever loses the ability to empathize, he should find another line of work.
Mike has served as the president of the Bixby Optimist Club and Bixby Chamber of Commerce. Mike is has also served in other community organizations and committees and enjoys being a vital part of the communities he serves.
In his free time, Mike enjoys walking their dogs, the outdoors and traveling. Mike and Pam have two sons, Shane and Trey, who both graduated from Bixby High School. Above all, Mike’s family is the most important thing to him.
Pam is a vital part in the details of running the funeral home both inside and out. Pam earned her college degree in merchandising and uses that knowledge daily. Pam uses her gifts and talents to continually give each of their funeral homes a home-like feel.
Mike and Pam live next door to the funeral home, so in addition to the many other duties Pam cares for, you can usually see her outside on warm days tending to the landscape or hanging lights for the holidays. She recognizes and is passionate about making each location warm and welcoming to gather friends and family during difficult times.
